With all-new Be A Pro mode, step onto the ice and play an entire career as yourself through a dynamic camera angle in two compelling game modes. As a single player, earn your own hockey card progressing from the AHL to the NHL, or play the first true massively multiplayer online console sports game, allowing you to assemble a team with up to 50 friends in the new EA SPORTS Hockey League. Playing with 11 live players online or storming the ice on your own, evolve your game and have a legendary career with NHL 09.
- All eyes are on you: Be a pro by creating a player for an entire career. Earn trophies and your very own hockey card as your coach rates you in 60 categories. Play well or you might get traded.
- EA SPORTS Hockey League: Throw your newly created player online, join a team with up to 50 friends, and become one of the first to experience massively multiplayer online play in a console sports video game. With live six vs. six team play, you can become the first great name in online hockey.
- Check hard and fight: An all-new physics-based checking and fighting engine brings a whole new level of intensity to the game. Catch players with their head down and lay them out like never before.
- New defensive Skill Stick: NHL® 08provided true offensive prowess with the Skill Stick—now you have the power to stop it. Block passing lanes with 360-degree control of your stick or disrupt an opponent's one-timer by lifting their stick just before they receive a pass.
- Light the lamp in spectacular fashion: A new weapon has been added to your offensive arsenal—the one-handed deke. During breakaways or in open ice, tap the puck to one hand then tuck it behind a sprawling goalie for the ultimate finish.
- Get everyone in the game: Shoot, pass, and score using a simplified two-button control system from the glory days ofNHL 94. With the addition of the Czech, German, and Russian leagues, everyone around the globe can enjoy the fastest sport on earth.
